Legend
[1] - The athlete Elpidio Jiménez finished the 1500m (the last event of the Decathlon) ahead of Moisés Cohén. Following the IAAF/WA practice for such cases, only the winner's record was officially recognized. In the 1951 IAAF Handbook came into effect the rule 46.5, which justify this procedure.
[2] - This Decathlon was part of the Intramural Games of the Polytechnic Institute of Puerto Rico (now Interamerican University). It spanned several days because the athletes also competed in other disciplines of the Intramural Games.
[3] - Although it took place in 1955 (when the 1952 scoring tables were in effect), this Decathlon was scored using the 1920 tables. The results provided by Arisnel Rodriguez Sosa, a Dominican statistician, show that these were the official results of the Decathlon. However, the calculations in the original source contain multiple errors. The athlete competed in this event with the goal of qualifying for the Decathlon at the second Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1955, which he ultimately did not achieve. De la Mota's record totaled 5,070 points using the 1934 scoring tables, thus surpassing Cohen's existing record of 4,871.
