The Spanish decathlete Pablo Martinez jumped last Saturday 2.22 in the high jump inside a Heptathlon in the Under 23 Short Track National Championships, held in Sabadell (Catalunya, Spain).
This is the best performance by a Spaniard in the high jump event, both in the Heptathlon and the Decathlon (the previous best was by Gustavo Adolfo Becker with 2.18, in a Decathlon in 1984).
This result led Martinez to tie for seventh place in the historical ranking of the high jump in the short-track heptathlon with the Soviet/Russian Oleg Urmakayev (2.22 en 1988).
Pablo Martinez, boosted by this great result, was crowned 2026 U23 national champion of Spain with 5480 points. Pablo improved his personal best of the event from 2.15 to the mentioned 2.22m.
